  • JFAK Projects Featured in Global Guide to Contemporary Architecture (C-Guide)

    Three JFAK projects – CMC’s Roberts Pavilion, LAPD MTD + MSP, and LA Design Center – are featured in C-Guide for the City of Los Angeles, recently launched by the Foundation for Contemporary Architecture based in Córdoba, Spain.

    JFAK Kicks Off Associated Students Bike Shop Project at UCSB

    JFAK has officially begun work on the new Associated Students Bike Shop, to be located at UC Santa Barbara’s main campus. The new facility will replace a beloved but temporary structure that serves UCSB’s growing community of cyclists, and will be a hub for bike repair, community shop use, educational programming, and student activities.

     

    JFAK Wins 2 AIA | SFV Design Awards

    JFAK’s DCTWRP Maintenance and Warehouse Facility Replacement Project and Glendale Artist’s Residence were each awarded an AIA/SFV Design Citation honor at the organization’s annual Awards Gala in January.

    JFAK to Design New Facilities for the City of Anaheim’s Public Utilities Department

    JFAK has been selected to design a new Crew Quarters Building (CQB) and Sustainability Education Center (SEC) for the City of Anaheim’s Public Utilities Department (APU). The project was officially kicked off with a site walk and utilities investigation on January 9, 2020.

    The new CQB will provide facilities for APU field staff representing APU’s Water, Electric, Environmental, and Customer Service Divisions as well as its Public Works Facilities Maintenance Group.

    The SEC will serve as a public education and community center that demonstrates sustainable building practices, energy and water use efficiencies, and cutting-edge home innovation technologies.

    Construction is slated for mid-2021.

    Alice Kimm to Speak at University of Oregon

    Alice Kimm will participate in the Winter Lecture Series at University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Environment. The lecture will take place today, January 13, at 5:15 pm in Lawrence Hall 210. It is free and open to the public.

    UCLA’s Kinross Recreation Center Recognized at Interior Design’s 2019 Best of Year Awards

    UCLA’s Kinross Recreation Center (KREC) was named an Honoree in the Small Health + Wellness category of Interior Design’s 2019 Best of Year Awards program. Congratulations to all of our fellow honorees and award winners!

    La Kretz Innovation Campus Named Project of the Year by USGBC Los Angeles

    At USGBC-LA’s annual award gala, held on December 11 at the newly refurbished Los Angeles Athletic Club, La Kretz Innovation Campus was named Project of the Year, culminating a series of distinctions. The first US project to receive both LEED-Platinum and WELL-Gold certifications, the project has become not only a hub for clean technology in Los Angeles, but for cross-disciplinary events, conferences, and community celebrations.

    Wonderland Elementary School Receives an AIA|LA Design Award

    JFAK’s Wonderland Elementary School Kindergarten Classroom Building, designed for Los Angeles Unified School District, took home an AIA/LA Design Award at last night’s annual gala. The project will break ground in Summer 2020.

    UCLA’s Kinross Recreation Center Featured in Interior Design

    “Without a doubt, fitness and wellness are big buzzwords. UCLA jumped right in to make them part of the curriculum for the university’s faculty and grad students in the most expedient way possible. The school commissioned John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects to create the Kinross Recreation Center (KREC). The firm’s approach: A modular solution devised in record time for a designated parking lot site.”
