Anna W Ngai Alumni Center at CSULB featured in Architect Magazine

“They had this vision of something between institutional and domestic and [the challenge was] finding that sweet spot,” John Friedman tells Wesley Feero of Architect in this feature about our Alumni Center for Cal State University Long Beach. Our new corrugated metal-clad facility is at once formal and approachable; serious and cozy; light-filled and private. Marrying these tensions was accomplished with carved apertures, simulated wood siding, expansive transparency, and pitched roofs that pay tribute to both California’s midcentury-modern design tradition and the campus’s famous Walter Pyramid Arena. The facility is now a central gathering hub for the alumni and extended community of this beloved and high-powered local institution.
