UCSB ASBS Wins Again!
We are happy to report that our Associated Students Bike Shop for UCSB has received an American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum.
From its prominent site in front of UCSB Admissions, the new student-run bike shop and accompanying outdoor area replace a decades-old structure. The reimagined facility services UCSB’s huge cycling population while adding a dynamic, welcoming beacon for visitors. The new, geometrically striking building playfully references bicycle wheels in form and planning; inside, plywood walls and large expanses of glazing create a casual, warm, and bright space. Overall, the purpose-driven project reflects a core ethos of architecture-as-service through formally inventive, socially-driven, community-oriented, and sustainably-minded design.
